Samsung announces shipping of SATA II 64 GB SSDs
Seoul (Korea) – Samsung claims it is first to be shipping 64 GB flash-based solid state disk drives (SSDs) with a 3.0 Gb/s Serial ATA II interface.
The drives almost double possible write speeds to 100 MB/s and read speeds to 120 MB/s and will target high-end desktop PC and server storage applications, the manufacturer said. The power consumption of the new drives, which will be available with a capacity of 64 GB in 1.8” and 2.5 “ form factors, is rated at 1.9 watts.
Samsung did not say when the new SSDs will be shipping in volume. There was no information on the price premium over SATA SSDs and how much these new drives will cost.
