Samsung Galaxy S Packs Super AMOLED, Android

Samsung's latest Android phone, the Galaxy S, gets previewed at CTIA.

This week at CTIA, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S, an Android smartphone that packs a punch.

Set for launch in the U.S. sometime this year, the device boasts a 4-inch WVGA 800 X 480 Super AMOLED display and a 1GHz processor that handles HD video perfectly. Other features include Android 2.1, a 5-megapixel camera (with auto focus) capable of shooting video at 720p, Bluetooth 3.0, USB 2.0 and WiFi.

Softpedia reports support for 2.5G (GSM/ GPRS/ EDGE): 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz frequencies, as well as for 3G (HSDPA 7.2Mbps, HSUPA 5.76Mbps): 900 / 1900 / 2100 MHz bands.

As far as media is concerned, the Galaxy S comes with either 8GB or 16GB of internal memory (expandable to 32GB via a memory card slot) and supports a wide array of formats including mpeg4, H.264, H.263, H263Sorenson, DivX HD/ XviD, VC-1, MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA, OGG, AMR-NB, WAV, MID, AC3, IMY, FLAC and XMF.

Measuring in at 64.2 x 122.4 x 9.9mm, the device weighs 118g, which is 17g lighter than the iPhone 3GS (135g) and 12g lighter than the Nexus One.
