55 countries around the world celebrate Safer Internet Day
Well, another year, another Safer Internet day. In it’s fifth year, Safer Internet Day runs every February and is all about teaching young people and parents about how to be safe online.
The aim of the day is to provide information on online safety through a variety of different events and promote safe behaviour online and a certain awareness of the virtual world using contests and the like.
This year will see the biggest number of countries take part to since SID started. With 55 countries taking part and events in the following 30 it’s not surprising to see the UK and Ireland hosting their own events.

Throughout January there has been contests running which encourage children to develop multimedia projects to raise awareness about internet safety.
Several schools in Ireland are also running training days to equip teachers with the knowledge required to educate students about online safety.
