The Romantics take Guitar Hero's Actvision to court
The Romantics are all set to take Guitar Hero publishers, Activision, to court for imitating one of their songs.
Apparently, Activision asked the band for permission to cover its hit What I Like About You for Guitar Hero Encore : Rocks the 80s. The band agreed to this but are none too pleased with the resulting tune.
The Romantics said while they were happy to allow the song to be covered, the finished tune was an imitation rather than the proposed cover version. Apparently the Guitar Hero version is so like the original song, the band’s attorney says the company has infringed the group’s right to its own image and likeness.
The band filed the lawsuit last Tuesday and is seeking unspecified damages and an injunction against the game. Guitar Hero Encore : Rocks the 80s was released on PlayStation in July but, thanks to the band, may be taken off the shelves in time to miss the Christmas rush.
