Red Faction Armageddon in 2011, Screens
The latest Red Faction title is slated for Q1 2011.
We already knew that a new Red Faction title was in the works, however THQ officially revealed the title Monday while also offering up a batch of new screenshots. Set for a release date of February/March 2011, Red Faction Armageddon (RFA) is currently in development at Volition and slated for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
The game's story will focus on the battle for Mars beneath the planet's red surface. Players take on the role of Darius Mason--grandson of Alec Mason and Samanya-- in a fight to defend humanity against "an even greater evil that threatens to extinguish all life on the planet." According to THQ, the game will use Volition's Geo-Mod 2.0 technology, offering physics-based weaponry that's slated to "redefine gameplay in the shooter genre." Honestly, we've heard this before with the previous two installments--we'll have to see if the latest engine brings anything new to the table.
Here's a bit more on the game's overall story:
Half a century after the Red Faction resistance freed Mars, the red planet again becomes a battleground. Colonists struggle for survival in the underground mines after the surface is rendered uninhabitable. When Darius Mason, grandson of revolution heroes Alec Mason and Samanya, unknowingly releases a long-dormant evil, Armageddon is unleashed on Mars. As settlements are torn asunder, only Darius and the Red Faction can save mankind. The battle will take them to the core of the storm-blasted planet through ice caves and lava flows until they are face to face against the unspeakable threat. Red Faction: Armageddon expands on the critically acclaimed, best-selling franchise with new, groundbreaking challenges. You are humanity's last hope for survival.
RFA will feature multiplayer co-operative modes addition to the single-player campaign. Darius Mason will even utilize inert Nano Forge abilities which should lead to interesting gameplay strategies. But will the new installment bring life back to the Red Faction series? Based on the story and screenshots, the RFA looks to be a promising title.

I wouldn't say that. They've had their entertaining moments. And I've enjoyed them enough to play them all through to the end. A matter of preference I suppose.
