UK Web Users Downloading RealPlayer 10K Times Per Day
Despite the fact that it's getting on a bit in years and fell out of favour several years ago, RealNetworks reports that people in the UK are still downloading RealPlayer at a pretty steady rate.
RealPlayer's popularity waned over the last 10 years, thanks to a surge in support for Flash and criticisms claiming older versions of the player contained features similar to adware and spyware. However, it seems RealPlayer is very much alive and people are still downloading the software very regularly. TechRadar cites RealPlayer owner RealNetworks as saying it sees 10,000 downloads per day in the United Kingdom alone. The company estimates that it is on track to hit 100 million global downloads for 2011.
"In any given month we have over 25 million unique users," Managing Director Ken Murphy told TR, later admitting that he has no way of knowing if these are once-off users who just need RealPlayer for one specific task or if they're regular users.
The company also teased a new version of RealPlayer set to launch on November 15, claiming that it's an exciting piece of software that "offers something that no one else has on the market." Stay tuned...

"offers something that no one else has on the market."
Yeah, spyware.
never going to bother with anything like this i just use wmp with shark007 codecs
or sometimes if i need to select things like different audio streams or subs
ill use vlc player, its light and you can also get a portable version
I haven't thought about real player since about 2001!
CCCP is all you need (all the codecs you'll ever need in one pack with a copy of media player classic home cinema, bundled into one installer).
To the same end, I probably haven't used Windows Media Player (any version) for that long either.
i perfer shark, because it is simple to use and when you install it, it will also change any settings back to default when you uninstall it
i had nothing but problems trying to get k-lite codec pack to work
it could be that im on win7 x64 proffesional though
