Razer to Honour Unauthorized 90-Percent Off Code in UK

By - Source: Techspot | B 3 comments

Razer says it will honour orders made using an unauthorized 90-percent off coupon.

Gaming peripheral maker Razer has said it will honour a UK coupon code that was accidentally published by a third-party. The company explained in an emailed statement that an unauthorized 90 percent-off discount code for Razer purchases online was made available by a third party.

Razer's CEO said that the coupon code was not authorized or approved by Razer. It was apparently generated by a third party to test the company's shopping cart and left in Razer's system unbeknownst to the gaming peripheral maker. Despite the fact that Razer doesn't have to honour it, CEO Min-Liang Tan has said his company will fulfill orders placed using the coupon.

"While we have the option of cancelling the orders legally, we’ve always had a customer comes first policy at Razer and in respect of this incident, we have decided to honour the orders that were placed using the unauthorized code by Razer fans buying single products for their own use," Tan said in a statement. However, the move will come at a cost for Razer.

"Unfortunately, as the products are being sold well below their cost, it will likely cost us an insane amount of losses to make good on the orders which will really really hurt us as we’re still a small company  - that much said, we want to do right by the community," he said.

Tan added that for orders in the multiples of units for a single product, the company will give each customer an opportunity to purchase one unit at the reduced, 90-percent off rate. However, it will not be offering the reduced rate for multiple orders of the same product.

"Our focus is on doing the right thing for our fans, the gamers and the community, not for resellers or users to profit from this. That’s not gaming, that’s not our deal."

Even with 90 percent off they are still ripping folks off, their products are cheap crap that look nice, I have tried Razer products a few times and every one of them broke withing a year or ended up double-clicking when you press the mouse button once.

Lies. No company worth their salt would intentionally slit their own throat to "do right by the customer" if it risked their financial stability.

Either there's a legal reason they can't refuse or they're suing the hell out of the "3rd party" for undermining them.

And what sort of company doesn't know what's going through their systems, especially if that data comes from an affiliate.
