Woman loses case against RIAA, then loses lawyer
We all remember Jammie Thomas, the single mother from the States who took the RIAA to court and lost. Spectacularly. Well it turns out the case isn’t the only thing she losing. . .
Jammie was found guilty by a jury of her peers in October for illegally sharing and pirating music and subsequently ordered to pay a fine of over $200,000. Instead of slinking off with her tail between her legs, the proud woman filed an appeal and set up a website to help raise awareness of her defence.
The site recently announced that Jammie’s lawyer, Brian Toder, could no longer represent Jammie in court due to lack of funds. Mr Toder was working pro bono (for those of you not in the know, that means for free) and encouraged Ms Thomas to fight the case against the RIAA.
The free Jammie site is selling merchandise to help with funding. Anyone interested in purchasing a Free Jammie mug, bag, baseballcap, dog jumper, thong, tshirt, hoody, teddybear or otherwise click here.
