Sharkoon Quickport: In Use
The Quickport is designed to handle both 3.5” and 2.5” hard drives. This is possible thanks to the standardization of the Serial-ATA connector interface. With IDE drives, the connectors and their placement differed from one manufacturer to the next – and even from one model to another!
The individual drives are inserted into and removed from the docking station from above. Using an ejection mechanism the drives can be removed with ease. In our testing, none of the Serial-ATA drives had to be unmounted from the operating system (Vista Ultimate 32 bit) before removing it. The drives are mounted and unmounted automatically, which by default the OS acknowledges with an audio signal.

Shame about it not not having both eSATA and USB.
I can under stand them going with USB as very motherboard/laptop have then, but if they had the eSATA as well then, they would have been onto a winner.
Personally the design reminds me of the old NES and Sega Master System game slots.
Old school! Might have a SNES weekend now you mention it...
You can see the option of an eSATA connector on the picture of the PCB , just down from the USB connector.
They might release that version later , or you could just modify the case and add your own.
Never going to happen, but I immediately imagined software publishers putting their games on HDD you then slot into your dock. Sod blu-ray
Hmmm now all we need if for HDs to come in a protective plastic case for handling and it will look like we are back with 8-track cartridges.
I like the look of this device and will keep an eye out for an 'improved' version in the next few months.
How about a review of the Quickport Pro:
