Qimonda reiterates it will jump directly to GDDR5

Taking a relatively different stance on its graphics DDR (GDDR) deployment, Qimonda reiterated that it would skip developing GDDR4 and instead directly move to GDDR5 with volume production expected in the first half of 2008, according to Robert Feurle, vice president of the graphics business unit at Qimonda. With Qimonda leading its rivals in the introduction of GDDR5, instead of GDDR4, Feurle stressed that GDDR5 should be the next standard in the graphics memory market while GDDR4 should be a standard in niche markets only.
