RWS: Postal III is "Looking Good"

Postal III seems to be on track for the PC for a 2010 release.

Last week Vince Desi of Running with Scissors sent along a coupon for the Krotchy doll listed on the RWS online store. Measuring four inches tall with additional 2-inch-long legs, Postal fans will know what this character is all about, so we'll leave the description alone. The coupon knocks $5 off the original price.

However, curious to know the status of Postal III, I fired back an email. "[It's] looking good," Vince Desi said. "The PC version [will be] this year, and [we're] in talks with publishers now for [the Xbox] 360." There was no word on the Linux, Mac OS X, and PlayStation 3 versions (although the latter is slated to be released after the PC and Xbox 360 versions).

While I'll admit that I thoroughly enjoyed the original isometric Postal game released on the PC back in 1997, I never picked up 2003's Postal II. But according to RWS, the newest installment will supposedly expand upon the sandbox-design used in the previous game. RWS has also kicked out Epic's Unreal Engine for Valve's Source, and has switched from the 1st-person perspective used in Postal II to a 3rd-person viewpoint. Hopefully RWS will implement a toggle for those who prefer the personal touch.

Due to the nature of the Postal series, it will be interesting to see if Postal III will even make it to the consoles without heavy-duty censoring. Hopefully we'll see more of this game at E3 2010 this June... if it's not out already.
