Toshiba recalls overheating portable DVD player batteries
San Jose (CA) - Another battery burning hazard has been announced, this time for Toshiba brand portable DVD players.
Around 142,000 battery/AC adapter units have been recalled, according to a statement released by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission this week. There were two reported cases of overheating that caused the players to be burnt.
The DVD player in question is model number SD-P1600 with AC adapter model ADPV16. According to the consumer advocacy group this affects players sold from January 2005 to April 2006. The devices were priced at around $215.
Owners of an affected DVD player are advised to stop using the battery adapter and contact Toshiba for a replacement.
