Nokia 7390
Nokia 7390
How does it look?
This is another one of Nokia’s famous L’Amour collection. You’re looking at a sleek sophisticated design that’s absolutely perfect as a present purely because it’s not silver or black.
The 7390 comes in various colours, which automatically give it an edge. The bronze and orange version it gives off a tribal, ethnic vibe (don’t ask us how Nokia has managed to pull that off in a tech product but it has) while the powder pink model says high fashion the moment you take it out of your purse.
Now, on to the risky bit. The 7390 is, unfortunately, a clam-shell phone. These are, in our opinion by natural selection, a dying breed. They’ve been around so long and sometimes, it’s better to let something fade away than draw yet more attention to it. That said, the fact that the design and the colours are so different to other clam-shell phones out there does make it more appealing to us.
It’s an ok weight of 115g and is certainly not the lightest out there. Having said that it pulls off a commendable 90 x 47 x 19 mm sizewise.
What does it do?
It’s Nokia’s first 3G handset (and allows you to stream videos straight to your phone) in the L’Amour collection and this definitely gives it an edge over any of the others.
It’s got dual screens, one on the inside and one on the outside. The external screen provides 262k colours with a screen resolution of 160 x 128 pixels when it’s closed and the main, inside screen provides you with up to 16 million colours on a bright QVGA screen with a 240 x 320 resolution.
The camera on the phone is a more than decent 3 megapixels and has video capabilities and a built-in flash to go along with it. Aside from that it’s got a separate VGA camera for video-calling, which we thought was pretty fancy.
Like we said before it’s got 3G, it’s also has Bluetooth, an FM radio, the all important Snake, an MP3 player, 128 Mb memory plus MicroSD™ memory option.
With regard to battery life, you’re looking at a respectable 220 hours standby with 2.5 hours of talktime. Not the best but again, pretty acceptable.
Who is it for?
It’s a decent phone if you’re looking to buy for a niece or nephew or your son or daughter. It does what the average 15 or 16 year old would want a phone to do. It plays music, looks really cool and fact that it comes in either brown or pink means it’s suitable for both genders. You can also keep them busy on Christmas day with some of those downloadable Java games.
