Star Trek HD DVD boxset includes phaser remote control
Los Angeles (CA) - The complete first season of Star Trek is now available on HD DVD, and among the special features is a new phaser style remote control.
The Star Trek set is only available in high-def on HD DVD because it is owned by strong format supporter Universal. The 40-year-old TV series is the oldest show to make its way to a high-def format.
Included in the 10-disc set are every episode from the first season of the original Star Trek series first aired in 1960. Numerous special features are part of the collection, including exclusive picture-in-picture video commentary for selected episodes.
One of the more unique additions, though, is a special edition "phaser remote control", which works with all Toshiba HD DVD players.
The massive set carries a retail price of around $200. In addition to the large number of discs, the price is high because the entire set uses the HD DVD’s "combo format" functionality. This means that each disc has one side that is an HD DVD while the other side contains the same content, but will work on standard DVD players.
