Beam Me Up, Peggy: Hot Fuzz Star to Play Scotty in Next Trek Movie
British comedian, actor and writer Simon Pegg has signed on to play Montgomery Scott, or Scotty Chief Engineer on the Starship Enterprise, in the upcoming prequel Trek movie from Lost creator J.J. Abrams.
Director Abrams is no stranger to Pegg who starred in the director’s Mission : Impossible III as IMF technician Benji Dunn.
Also signed for the film is the Incredible Hulk and Munich’s Eric Bana as Nero, Zoe Saldana as Uhura and Anton Yelchin as a young Chekov.
Although the role calls for a Scotsman, Pegg has already proved that he has the Scottish accent down in a comedy skit of 1995 action movie, Braveheart
The details of the plot are being kept very hush hush but it’s rumoured the film will chronicle the early days of the crew on the Enterprise. Shooting is expected to begin next month with a release date of Christmas day, 2008.
