New Pantech mobile phone amplifies the voices in your head

by - source: Tom's Hardware UK

Japanese experts have announced the launch of a phone that uses bone conducting technology to amplify sound.

The background noise eliminating technology is nothing new but the Pantech A1407PT has just been unveiled as the first ever mobile phone utilizing bone conduction technology to cut down on ambient noise.

Bone conduction transmits sound through the skull and then on into the inner ear by vibration and has already been used in headsets, hearing aids and headphones for MP3 players etc.

Apart from the new bone conducting speak on the front of the phone, the Pantech A1407PT is a fairly normal clamshell phone with a 2.4-inch QVGA display on the inside and a 96 x 64 display on the flip. It has a 1.3 megapixel camera, 20MB of internal memory, and microSD slot for expansion.

The phone is expected to be most popular among construction workers, OAPs and other people with noisy professions like zookeepers.

The phone will launch in Japan in November but there’s been no hint at releasing it anywhere else. Shame.
