To me, there's nothing more irritating than having unwanted windows appear when I type in a specific URL to get to a specific web site. It seems like that borders on an invasion of privacy, just like unsolicited telemarketing phone calls. The only thing worse are those sites that won't let you use the Back button to leave the site. While this product isn't hardware, it sounds like something that could be of use to those cruising the Internet in search of hardware info. Panicware's Pop-Up Stopper Pro version 1.2, an upgrade to Panicware's free version, provides options to allow pop-ups at selective sites so that you can support advertising on sites you frequent (like THG), while blocking intrusive ads. Pop-Up Stopper Pro doesn't block banner advertising or web site graphics. Panicware is also now offering site licenses to help employers and schools keep inappropriate material from being displayed to employees and children in pop-up windows not related to the content of the site the users are visiting. Pop-Up Stopper Pro gives you several pop-up control settings for Internet Explorer, including the ability to collect statistics on blocked pop-ups, visit blocked URLs, and choose from a variety of sounds to play when a pop-up is blocked. Pop-Up Stopper Pro is available for download from Panicware . After the free 30-day evaluation period, single-user registration is $19.95, and site licenses are available for multiple copies. Pop-Up Stopper Pro 1.2 is supported by Windows 95, 98, NT, ME, 2000 and XP, and Internet Explorer 5.x and 6.x browsers.
