O2 "Nearly Ready" to Launch Bug-free Xperia Play

by - source: Tom's Hardware UK

O2 is nearly ready to let customers have at the newest addition to the Sony Ericsson family: the Xperia Play.

Scheduled for launch on April 1, Vodafone and 3UK and O2UK all announced last minute Xperia Play delays. While Vodafone preferred to keep quiet on specifics and 3UK said it was a stock issue, O2 said it was because its own testing team had discovered bugs that needed to be ironed out before it could launch the device.

This week, in an update posted to the official O2 blog, the carrier says the wait for the Xperia Play is almost over.

"[...] I said that we would continue to work closely with Sony Ericsson for the next few weeks to fix the bugs," said Stuart Hibberd, head of O2’s testing team, referring to his post about the delay. "Since then we’ve received new software from Sony Ericsson which we’ve been testing here and, I’m happy to report, it has fixed a lot of the bugs that would have stopped our customers having a great experience when they use the PLAY. This is an important milestone for us and means the PLAY is nearly ready to go on sale."

Prices and a more solid release date will be coming soon so stay tuned and we’ll keep you posted. If you just cannot wait, Orange is already selling the device, as is Carphone Warehouse. 3 just started selling the device today. Vodafone lists the phone as ‘out of stock’ and says it will have more in 3-4 weeks.

I still reckon it was mainly bugs in their customised versions of the SE OS...

afaik it was meant to be issues with youtube playback freezing the phone. I made a comment on that blog yesterday which was not approved as I asked why it wasn't released on schedule as the chances of it happening were so small it could have been dealt with by an OTA update once resloved, but it was not approved by them.....wonder why
