Nokia's Lumia 800 Arrives in UK Shops

by - source: Engadget

Nokia's first Windows Phone is illuminating shop windows from today.

Just a few weeks after it was officially unveiled in London, the Nokia Lumia 800 has hit UK stores. The device's UK launch puts us ahead of the United States, which isn't expected to get the Windows Phone 7 handset from Nokia until 2012. Espoo unveiled the Lumia 800 in late October at Nokia World. The phone is the first Windows Phone 7 handset to come out of Nokia since it announced plans to make the Microsoft OS its primary smartphone operating system early this year.

Boasting Windows Phone 7.5, also known as Mango, the Lumia 800 packs a 1.4GHz single-core CPU, a 3.7-inch AMOLED display, 16GB of internal storage, an 8-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and 720p/30fps recording, and 25GB of cloud storage via SkyDrive. The phone is available in three colours, black, cyan and pink, but only the black model is on sale today. If you want the coloured models you'll have to wait another little while. Word on the street is that the cyan version will be out in early December and the pink model will hit after Christmas.

As far as interest goes, things are apparently going pretty well. Engadget cites word from Orange that the Lumia 800 has attracted the most attention the carrier has ever seen for a Nokia device. Not too shabby!

I['m sorry, but I see "Windows" and "single-core" in the same sentence and just shudder out of habit. I hope this phone is good, both Nokia and Windows Mobile could use a big boost.
