London Museum Gets NFC Thanks to Nokia
No need for the guided tour headsets anymore!
With the mobile phone industry gearing up for a massive NFC push over the coming months, it seems there's no end to the ways the technology can be used. From the beginning, Near Field Communication has been touted as a mobile payment system but NFC is capable of so much more. Just one example of the wide range of functions it can carry out is the current implementation of NFC at the London Museum.
As part of a new partnership between the London Museum and Finnish phone maker Nokia, members of the public with NFC-equipped phones can now use their mobile devices in conjunction with special tags around the museum to find out more about exhibits.
"NFC Technology has the potential to change how we interact with our visitors," Vicky Lee, Marketing Manager for the Museum of London, said. "By simply touching tags located throughout both our venues, visitors can delve deeper into London's story in an immediate and engaging way, plus keep in touch with us by following the museum online."
The number of handsets with NFC support is increasing every day. Near Field Communications World carries a fully up-to-date list of NFC-enabled devices, which includes the Galaxy S2, the Nexus S, the Tocco Lite by Samsung, and the Nokia C7.
