Nokia's E6 Now Available for Preorder in the UK
Time to get your Symbian on.
A lot of the Nokia-related news as of late has been about the company’s Windows Phone 7 plans. Still, we’re going to have to wait a little while longer to see the product of a Nokia/Microsoft marriage, and in the meantime, the Espoo-based company is still affording some time to its Symbian line. Last month, Nokia announced an update to Symbian (dubbed ‘Anna’) and a couple of new handsets to go with it, the E6 and X7.
Today, the E6 hits preorder status in the UK. With a full physical QWERTY keyboard and a 2.5-inch display, Nokia is targeting business users with this device. The E6 also boasts 256MB RAM, 1GB ROM, up to 32GB in storage via MicroSD, an 8-megapixel camera with dual LED flash and 720p video capture, support for Flash 10, a removable battery, WiFi, and of course, Symbian Anna.
Understandably, you might be worried that if you purchase this phone, you'll be left high and dry when Nokia starts releasing WP7 devices, which it plans to make its
"primary smartphone OS." Never fear, the company has said it will support Symbian through until 2016, so you should get a good five years out of the E6 before you'll need to consider changing to something more current.
Pricewise, the device will set you back £340 as a SIM-free device. On contract, you can get the phone for free, as long as you’re willing to commit to paying £25 per month for services. Launch date so far is nothing more specific than 'end of June.'
