In response to last weeks report that many middle aged people were suffering from Nintendo Wii Syndrome, a Nintendo spokesperson has told Sky News that the number of officially reported injuries remains is still in single figures.
Last week Sky News reported that osteopaths in the UK were seeing an increasing amount of people who were suffering neck, back or shoulder pains as a result of too much Wii-action.
In the two weeks following Christmas oesteopath, Martin Davies, told Sky that he saw as many as 20 patients with what he referred to as “Nintendo Wii Syndrome”.
"It is predominantly neck and shoulder strains caused by middle-aged people playing these games for excessive periods."
Fast forward a couple of days and Nintendo are harping on about Wii safety. Yawn.
The rules for safe Wii play are as follows :
1.Excessive and forceful actions are not necessary.
It’s all about being gentle and using just enough force to execute the right movements. Remember, it’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye.
2.Always wear the wrist strap while playing.
This is common sense. We’ve all seen the pictures of tellies with Wiimotes embedded in them. This isn’t for your safety, this is for the safety of your telly. . .And possibly members of the family in the same room.
3.Keep a firm grip on the Wii Remote and Nunchuck at all times.
Again, it’s all down to common sense, ladies and gents.
4.Make sure people and objects are out of the range of movement before play begins.
Buzz words, common and sense.
