Nigeria Closes its Gates in Bill's Face
Microsoft main man Bill Gates was a little red in the face when he was recently refused a visa to travel to Nigeria over fears that he might not leave.
Even with a net worth of US$59 billion, Nigerian officials were worried that Gates was planning on sticking around “indefinitely” and as a result, would put a strain on social welfare services.
Nigerian Immigration insisted that Gates show adequate proof of income to make sure he wouldn’t be moochin’ off of their property, even though Nigerian Visa Rules do not require visitors to state their income when applying for a visa.
Gates was visiting Nigeria in connection with a charity owned by himself and wife, Melinda. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has an endowment of $31.9 billion and is active in combating AIDs and Malaria in Nigeria.
