MyDateReviews.com takes the lying out of online dating
Anyone who has a friend who frequents chatrooms in the hopes of finding a date has heard the horror stories regarding the whole messy experience.
They go on and on about how wonderful the person they’ve “found” is and how much they have in common and not once do they consider the fact that perhaps, just maybe, when they meet this person in the flesh they could turn out to be just downright odd.
Traditionally (ok, so up until about 5 years ago), you met prospective partners through family (although those never seemed to work out), friends or work. You usually had a direct connection to your next victim and knew a few things about them before you met, such as why they broke up with their most recent boyfriend or girlfriend.
The times they are a changing and let’s face it, you meet someone online and they could be married, a different gender, have a photo that’s ten years old or the ever so popular “well, I did lop a few years off my age….”
MyDateReviews is a site set up to help those of you who are looking for love online. The aim of the website is to take the lying out of online dating by providing valuable information about the accuracy of prospective date profiles.
Using reviews of real dates, users can verify the accuracy of the dater’s profile and learn more about other online daters to better gauge whom they want to meet in person.
Visiting MyDateReviews.com we found that most of the reviews seemed quite fair and honest. You can also tell from the review if someone actually had a good time or not, which we can see becoming a bit of a trend. Go on the date, rush home to check if he or she had as good a time as you did . . .
Having said that, nearly all negative ratings regarding people lying about their age or otherwise have been flagged as offensive. Imagine our disappointment when we were unable to read any further than the teaser for “he lied about his age, he looks about 10 years older. . .” because said user probably logged on, saw that his secret was out and hit flag.
MyDateReviews launched on Valentine’s day so it’s still it in the wobbly legs period. Time will tell whether it turns out to be useful or if the users just turn it into a site where they gripe about blind dates gone wrong.
