Orange Reveals UK Release for Motorola Atrix

by - source: Orange UK

Gadget fans that have been salivating over the Motorola Atrix since it first reared its heard at CES 2011 will be pleased to hear Orange is bringing the device to this side of the pond.

Orange today revealed that it’s nabbed the Motorola Atrix for a May release. First shown off at CES in January, the Atrix packs Nvidia’s Tegra 2 processor and is unique in that it offers an optional laptop docking station that transforms the phone into a notebook. The phone itself sports a 4-inch display (540x960), the 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 CPU, and 16GB of internal storage (expandable to 48GB via microSD). The docking station adds two USB sports, a full size keyboard and an 11.5-inch display (1366x768). There’s also an option for a multimedia dock that provides 3xUSB 2.0 and HDMI support.

Orange UK was kind enough to release pricing and availability for this bad boy, but in what’s becoming rather commonplace, the network wouldn’t give a specific release date -- "early May" is all we’ve got. The so-called ‘Lapdock’ will cost £299 but is available at a reduced price with certain tariffs, while a ‘Work and Play’ kit consisting of a remote control, mouse, HD multimedia dock and keyboard is on special offer for £49.99 (standard retail price is £129.99). Existing pay monthly customers who upgrade during the month of May will receive the Work and Play Kit for free. The phone itself will be free on a £35 per month, 24 month contract, which includes 600 minutes, 750 MB data allowance, unlimited texts, 50 MMS and "unlimited" WiFi (subject to fair usage) per month.

So now you’ve got everything but the release date. We’ll keep you posted on that one.
