Motorola Atrix Landing at T-Mobile on Wednesday

by - source: Electric Pig

T-Mobile customers patiently waiting for their chance to snatch up Motorola’s much talked about Atrix smartphone will be pleased to hear it’s launching tomorrow.

Introduced at CES Las Vegas, in January of this year, the Motorola Atrix quickly became one of the most talked about smartphones at the convention. The device, which comes with Nvidia’s Tegra 2 chipset and the option of a laptop docking station and, racked up a total of nine awards at CES.

However, though the device has been available across the pond for some time, the Atrix has only been out in the United Kingdom since earlier this month, and that’s on Orange. Still, that’s all going to change tomorrow as T-Mobile welcomes the superphone to its portfolio.

ElectricPig reports that the network is getting the phone on June 1, and, in pricing quite similar to what Orange is offering, it will cost nothing for those willing to sign a two-year, £37.75-a-month contract. Customers coughing up more than £40.85 per month will get the Work & Play keyboard, mouse and HDMI dock for free. The all-important laptop dock will cost you £299.

Specswise, you’re looking at a 4-inch display (540x960), the aforementioned 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 CPU, and 16GB of internal storage (expandable to 48GB via microSD). The docking station adds two USB sports, a full size keyboard and an 11.5-inch display (1366x768). The whole shebang runs on Android 2.2 with Motoblur on top, which is one of the negative points about this phone, considering a lot of the Android talk these days is focused on Gingerbread, Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich. Still, Moto is keen to ensure the Atrix is a success here in the UK and the device is part of a multi-million pound marketing campaign that will see demos of the Atrix take place at London tube stations all through the month of June. These demos will show off the phone but also include shoulder massages for folks with heavy laptop bags. The idea is that the Atrix can be used as both a laptop and a phone, thereby lightening the load on your shoulder.

Motorola have a bad habit of screwing over non-US customers.

With the CLIQ/DEXT they delayed the OS updated by nearly a year then at the last minute cancelled it for all non-US customers.

Brought a Motorola android device once (DEXT) and would never want anything to do with Motorola again.
