UK-based Moshi Monsters Hits 50 Million Users
UK-based social networking site Moshi Monsters has garnered 50 million users.
While you or I might have a Facebook or LinkedIn profile, social networking is a whole different world for the younger generations. With Bebo’s popularity waning, there’s a spot going in the Kid’s Club and it looks like Moshi Monster is set to take it’s place. However, unlike Bebo, which targets those just a little too young for Facebook, Moshi Monsters is aimed at a much younger crowd.
Moshi Monsters is a site for children aged five and up and is sort of an online Tamagotchi. Users adopt an online monster and earn points by solving puzzles and taking of the little critter along the way. Points can then be traded in for furniture and and food for their monster. They can also make friends with other monster owners.
Moshi Monsters this week hit a milestone, as the Telegraph reports that it just signed up its 50 millionth user worldwide. As far as our own children are concerned, over half of the country’s six to 12 year olds have created profiles on the site. That equates to 13 million children in the UK.
"We’re thrilled to see Moshi Monsters experience such rapid growth across the globe," Michael Acton Smith, CEO and founder of Mind Candy, the company behind the site told the Telegraph. "We’ve hit 50 million users and have even more ambitious plans ahead. Our vision is to build the largest entertainment brand in the world for this new digital generation of kids."

Come on, kid can't be that bad!
Fist I've heard of it, but it does sound like a great idea. Presumably they make their money by sponsorship from toy companies? Well, 50M users is an impressive user-base for this sort of thing, and no mistake!
My daughter loves Moshi Monsters especially the adorable pink kitten. She enjoys solving puzzles, dressing her pet, and interacting with other players. This game is educational rather than annoying.
