Redmond (WA) - Microsoft has released a new program on the Xbox 360 that allows movie studios to test their videos for HD DVD playback before burning them to discs.
With the emulator, content providers can test out special features from video stored via network, USB drive, or directly in the Xbox 360 console.
Microsoft says this is a new low-cost way for studios to ensure problems don’t occur after movies have been printed on hundreds of thousands of discs. The software giant said in preliminary evaluations, studios had less development time and the number of test discs dropped by 75%.
Although the emulator is structured based on the Xbox 360 HD DVD player infrastructure, because all players follow rigid standards, tested content should work on all other playback devices.
Developers can access the emulator for a one-time licensing fee of around $3,000 and an Xbox Live account.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy an Xbox360?
Did you read the article at all Mi1ez?
- $3,000 is cheap in the grand scale of these things.
Its an emulator that runs ON an xbox360, therefore you (the dev) must alredy HAVE an XB360, so why exactly would buying another be any cheaper
why would they do this, i wonder if there trying to get back in the game with HDDVD, after they seem to have lost the High def battle, i wonder if this will help them(somehow i dont think it will, but still very interesting)
