70% of Microsoft Staff are Working on the Cloud
Steve Ballmer has said Microsoft is "betting the company" on cloud computing. He also offered some very interesting numbers with regards to how much of the company is focusing on cloud-related projects.
Speaking yesterday at the University of Washington, Steve Ballmer told students that the cloud has always been a source of tension at Microsoft and there's a lot of unrealized potential. Ballmer revealed that at the moment, 70 percent of Microsoft employees are working on cloud-related project. In a year's time, that number will have jumped to 90 percent. “We’re all in,” PaidContent cites the CEO as saying. “This is the bet for our company.”
Cloud computing is something a lot of people have no faith in. Trusting an outside source with all of your information is risky, and keeping a back up of all your documents sort of defeats the purpose of cloud storage. Do you think there will ever be a time when you trust the Cloud with your work? Let us know in the comments below.

I tried using Google documents for a paper I needed to write. Because it was very important I didn't trust my hard drive with it so I figured I'll just use Googe docs which will also ensure it's stored online and safe.
After about 50 pages it all went horribly wrong with the formatting and stuff and also the export to doc and ODF wasn't that good.
I think this whole cloud computing thing is a little bit overhyped. I still like my native apps better than the online ones and it's still faster to use something from my hard drive.
Sure, as a backup I like the cloud but I don't want to depend on it. Also when you really need high performance using some high performance cluster located somewhere else for some time would make sense. In the end thoug it's just cheaper to own your stuff and it works faster most of the time.
The only thing I really like using the "Cloud" and web apps is for email and social networks.
I find it very difficult to convince companies to upload their data and suff and people don't really have that much of a need for the "Cloud" asa bigger drive is cheaper.
cloud computing is the worst load of crap ive ever heard
what if the internet gose down?
how much will it cost? (it will definatly be a monthly payment)
and how many people like me would rather use dos than cloud computing
What if you have a pathetic internet connection?
What if it goes down on a day you need to get something important?
I don't like the idea at all.
Knowledge is power and Microsoft want’s it all.
Cloud computing works in an ideal world. This is not an ideal world. The cloud is the computing equivalent of communism.
I think that cloud computing will happen for more people when bandwidth, data conversion and security issues are solved. It's a bit premature, but in time these problems will be solved. As for MS, I will continue to stay as far away from them as practical, as I have since I started using Macs.
