At DV Expo this week, Medea Corp. unleashed its new VideoRaid RTR and VideoRaid RTRX, which the company says are designed for DCC applications like 2D/3D animation, compositing, special effects, game development and non-linear video editing (NLE). The RTR family of disk arrays features an Ultra160 SCSI interface that provides a data transfer rate of up to 130 MB/second for the desktop models. The dual-channel, rack mountable models are said to sustain more than 200 MB/second for 10-bit, 1080i HD capture and playback. Medea's RTR disk arrays also provide RAID data protection so that you can work with a "downed drive" without requiring immediate drive replacement. Other features of VideoRaid RTR disk arrays include capacities up to 600 GB, scalable to multi-teraBytes; Multi-Stream Technology (MST) for real-time playback of up to three uncompressed video streams; hot swappable disk drive modules, removable power supplies and RAID controllers; and compatibility with Mac, SGI, Sun and Windows-based DCC workstations. The 5-drive VideoRaid RTR is available in 160 GB, 240 GB and 300 GB capacities with list prices starting at $3,999. VideoRaid RTRX is available in 5 and 10-drive configurations with capacities of 160 GB, 240 GB, 300 GB, 320 GB, 480 GB and 600 GB. List prices on VideoRaid RTRX start at $4,599.
