Editor loses MacBook Air, blames wifey
Remember yesterday’s story about the MacBook Air “laptop” that prevented someone from passing through airport security because staff refused to believe that it was a real laptop ?
Well, the evidence is quickly stacking up against the super-slim Macintosh. Some people (ahem) believe that the absence of an optical drive is more of a hindrance than a convenience ; others believe that the lack of ports could cause problems. However, it’s not often you hear the cynics and critics complaining about the size of the Air, everyone seem to love the slim aspect. In other words, they want to have their cake and eat it.
Well, perhaps not everyone. We’re sure the NewsWeek Editor who accidentally chucked his out with the Sunday newspapers would appreciate if it was a little heavier with a little more bulk than perhaps necessary.
Steven Levy found himself in quite the predicament when he misplaced his review unit of the MacBook Air and while I’ve never personally misplaced a review copy of anything, it can’t be pleasant to know that a (roughly) €1,700 notebook you’ve been lent to review has gone walkabout.
Although Levy mentioned that NewsWeek would “pony up” for the $1,800 loss, there’s no prizes for guessing who’s going to pony up for the fact that Mr Levy blamed Mrs Levy’s housekeeping for the mishap.
“On Sundays in my apartment, the coffee table where the Air sat becomes the final resting place for the bulky New York Times. It is not unusual for other magazines, and newspapers from previous days, to accumulate there as well. My wife, whose clutter tolerance is well below my own, sometimes will swoop in and hastily gather the pulp in a huge stack, going directly to the trash-compactor room just down the hall from our apartment, dumping the pile into a plastic recycling bin.”
