MSI's GE600 Gaming Notebook Hits the U.S.

by - source: Tom's Hardware US

MSI today announced that the company's new GE600 gaming notebook is now available to customers in North America.

If Alienware's M11x gaming netbook just doesn't cut it with its 11.6-inch display, Core 2 Duo SU7300 (1.3GHz) CPU, and Nvidia GT335M GPU why don't you go for MSI's 16-inch GE600 which packs Intel's new Core i5 processor and an ATI Radeon 5730 graphics card for around the same money?

In addition to Core i5 and a Radeon 5730 graphics card, the GE600 boasts a 16-inch 1366×768 display, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a 320GB hard drive (7200rpm), a 6-cell battery, Bluetooth and Microsoft’s Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

It's available today on Newegg with a price tag just shy of $900.

the M11x is hardly a fair comparison considering they are in 2 separate markets

Everything is nice, performance would suffice for most games, but... the resolution? Why only 1366 x 768 for 16 inch display? I had much higher resolutions for smaller displays, and resolution sometimes matters (speaking about games like EVE Online and other resolution-hungry games).

...Er, the whole point of the M11x is that it HAS a 11.6" display. It isn't meant to be some massive 16-incher desktop-replacement.

I see that, like the m11x, this offering also has a glossy screen. I don't see the point of putting a GeForce or a Radeon, or any sort of graphic adapted at all into one of these laptops. In fact, why bother with internal components at all? You could save weight and extend battery life by having an empty case. If you use these out and about on a train, bus or plane (or anywhere with ambient lighting) and the experience you'll get will be exactly the same - Screen glare and not much else!
