The G9 Functions and Commands

The commands and functions of the G9 are managed by SetPoint drivers as per usual. Unusually though the ones used in version 5 have been specifically developed for the G9 and seem to abandon all pre-existing architecture we’ve been used to on previous Logitech mice. The interface was completely revised and seems a little more complex. This might seem like it comes at the expense of practicality. On the other hand, its drivers are much more comprehensive in the flexibility they allow you. They’re perfect for the task for assigning different profiles for different setups.

It is possible to record three complete profile settings in the mouse including the on-demand sensitivity levels. The change from one profile to another can be done by automatic detection of the application currently being used, a video game or a web browser, for example; or by using the (strangely placed) button under the mouse. Each profile can be associated to a colour displayed by the LEDs that indicate the sensitivity, allowing you to easily spot which profile is currently active.

SetPoint 5 also disposes of a macro micro-management the same as in the Microsoft drivers. When combined with the mouses ability to automatically detect which application is open, and which settings it should be using, it is an extremely effective way of increasing the rapidity of the execution of repetitive tasks in certain applications. It is rare enough that we say this about a Logitech product but the program side of the G9 is really well realised. Cheers!

The similarities between the two mice end pretty much right when we start to talk about their designs. They are both trying to achieve completely different things. Logitech have opted for a simpler design (that is more versatile) while Microsoft has gone with an impressive design that fits right around the palm of your hand.

The formatting on that is appalling! You can hardly tell which mouse they're talking about!!!

I agree with mi1ez - the article jumps back and forth between mice comparison with no warning, I am often lost as to which one I am reading about.

I managed to follow it fairly easily... still I'd rather see them put something up against the 4000 dpi beast that is the Razer Lachesis *pets his Lachesis while submitting comment*
