Led Zeppelin jumps on music download bandwagon
Led Zeppelin is to follow in Radiohead’s footsteps when they announced that their catalogue will be offered online from next month.
Guitarist Jimmy Page said that the band is pleased to offer the catalogue digitally, which they hope will enable fans to obtain their music in whichever manner they prefer.
Led Zeppelin, who has sold over 300 million albums worldwide, is joining the line of artists in the digital distribution business along with the likes of Oasis and David Bowie who are both considering online distribution for their music.
As well as the online catalogue the bands newest album, Mothership, a two disc compilation which spans the group’s 12 years and a remixed version of the 1973 The Song Remains the Same will also be available for download.
Aside from the downloads, Led Zeppelin have teamed up with mobile phone operator, Verizon Wireless, to produce a full range of ringtones and song downloads for mobiles.
The band are scheduled for a one-off reunion gig in memory of Atlantic Records founder, Ahmet Ertegun, on 26 November this year.
