LG team up with DivX to provide
LG Electronics and digital media company DivX today announced that the LG Viewty handset is the first mobile phone with DivX Certification, meaning it’s the first phone that can record video in the DivX format.
For years we’ve been seeing phones that come with video and picture capabilities but the LG Viewty is definitely, first and foremost, a camera. Boasting a 5.0 mega-pixel still image capture, manual focus, image stabilizer, handwriting recognition for photo editing, a document viewer and voice recording it almost seems like phone part was thrown in as an after thought.
The Viewty (and yes, we’re confused and slightly irritated by the name too…) enables consumers to capture high-resolution video on their mobile phones. DivX videos recorded on the phone can easily be uploaded to online video sites, which means we’re probably going to start seeing a lot more of those shakey videos that make you a bit sea sick floating around MySpace in the not too distant future.
These videos can also be played back “any DivX Certified consumer electronics device” such as DVD players, media players and consoles. Happy days.
"Our goal is to make it easy for consumers to enjoy a high-quality video experience on any kind of device," said Kevin Hell, CEO at DivX
"The LG Viewty is a perfect example of this experience. It allows consumers to capture video on its 3-inch screen and then easily transfer that video to a computer or virtually any kind of consumer electronics device."

DivX sucks. Why oh why cant everyone pick a bloody format and stick to it. I am tired of installing a billion cruft/spyware/adaware encrusted codecs just to get my movies to play. Winrar should be banned also.
