LG to launch multi-touch LCDs
Las Vegas (NV) - LG Philips this week unveiled details about large flat-screen LCD TVs that will respond dynamically to touch.
The company plans to show them off more officially at next week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. It will have models ranging from 32 inches all the way up to 84 inches.
The displays will be targeted mainly for use in advertising and other commercial means. The technology comes in the form of an infared image sensor, which can recognize input from a touch.
According to LG Philips, the screens have a response time of 90-Hz and a 1920 x 1080 resolution. Because it is not a strict touch-screen device, users will be able to manipulate and move on-screen objects, even with the use of both hands. The electronics company says they can also recognize handwriting.
LG Philips claims its 52-inch model breaks the record for largest multi-touch interactive panel, LCD or otherwise. The 84-inch unit is actually two 42-inch panels connected together.
