LED-based notebooks expected to see strong demand despite pricing issues
Although the price gap between LED-based backlighting and CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp) remains high at the moment, panel and backlight unit (BLU) makers believe demand for the segment will grow strongly in the second half of 2007 as several notebook vendors are pushing notebooks featuring LED as the backlight source. Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) president Chao-yang Ho said he is very impressed by the company’s lightweight 13.3" notebook LED-based panel, adding that its customers are not too concerned about the high price of LED backlighting due to its potential market in the future.
