Displaybank has forecast that LCD TVs equipped with LED BLUs (backlight units) instead of CCFLs (cold cathode fluorescent lamps) will reach 8% of the total market by 2011. According to Allen Ji, a senior researcher at Displaybank, LED-backlit LCD TV penetration will rapidly increase from 0.1% in 2008 to 8% in 2011, but each maker’s LED BLU equipped ratio would vary depending on the market next year.
