IFA 2008 – Samsung’s 780 LCD-TV with LED Backlight

Samsung is introducing its new 780 series of LCD flat panel TVs with LED backlighting. Initially, there will only be a 40” model called LE-40A780 featuring a characteristic colour scheme which Samsung calls “Crystal Design (Ocean Black)”. Thanks to the LED backlight, the colour rendering is meant to be much better than with a classic CCFL backlight.

The TV’s specifications sound promising. It features the Full-HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, outputs 24 Hz sources at 100 Hz and has both an analog and a DVB-T receiver built in. Additionally, four HDMI connectors provide connectivity for external sources. Sound is handled by two 10 watt speakers and a subwoofer. The integrated image viewer, called Wiselink, can be accessed using a USB 2.0 interface.
