Japanese group seeks common Net platform for consumer electronics

14 Japanese companies have joined in an effort to establish a common platform for Internet accessibility for home electronics. The "Ubiquitous Open Platform Forum" which includes firms such as NTT, Hitachi, Matsushita, NEC, Mitsubishi, Sanyo, Sharp and Sony plans to complete a specification by April. The forum’s main goal goal is to provide generic Internet access for digital consumer electronics and electric home appliances.
