Iomega Ties Up With Siblings For More Complete Backup Solution
Iomega, acquired by EMC a few months ago, is already looking to reap the benefits of being under a larger corporate umbrella. The external storage maker said it is partnering with other EMC-owned brands Dantz and Berkeley Data Systems to offer a backup bundle pulling together local and online backup solutions.
Iomega said it will be offering a new downloadable bundle which integrates EMC Retrospect Express backup and recovery software with Mozy online backup service. This new bundle is available to Iomega external hard drive owners with 2 GB of MozyHome online backup for free or unlimited MozyHome online backup storage for $4.95 a month.
Three download options of this bundle will be available, including Retrospect Express HD 2.5 for Windows, Retrospect Express 7.6 for Windows and Retrospect Express for Macintosh 6.1. This latter option unfortunately does not integrate with the online back up offering, so you’ll have to download separate MozyHome software for use with Macs.
Iomega external hard drives with the new downloadable software bundle are expected to become available this month. It is good to see it not costing Iomega users anything extra for this bundle, despite the cost of the unlimited MozyHome online offering. I hope these different EMC brands have collaborated to make sure things are optimal with this pairing and that we don’t end up with botched backups.
