Wireless chipmaker Intersil just announced the start of shipments of its second generation PRISM GT 802.11g draft-compliant chipset. Intersil said the new chipset is "designed to support" revision 8.1 of the 802.11g draft standard and incorporates the PRISM Nitro technology unveiled about a month ago. Intersil says that designs based on the new chipset will have lower material cost and lowest average idle and active currents - up to 75% in some cases.
