IE9: 2.35 Million Downloads on Day One

by - source: Windows Team Blog

Firefox 4 is coming next Tuesday and it’s already got a heck of a first-day to beat, as Microsoft has announced that Internet Explorer 9 was downloaded more than two million times in the first 24 hours it was available.

Released on Monday at SXSW in Texas, users have been downloading IE9 in droves. Microsoft’s Ryan Gavin today announced that in the 24 hours after it went live, 2.35 million downloaded the browser.

"We want to thank everyone around the world for downloading IE9 and the enthusiastic reception," said Gavin.

"2.3 million downloads in 24 hours is over double the 1 million downloads we saw of the IE9 Beta and four times that of the IE9 RC over the same time period."

For those that are interested, 2.35 million downloads in the first day equates to 27 downloads every second, or over 240 downloads every 9 seconds. Yowza!

You ready, Mozilla?

And yet.. even as a proud IE8 user.. I think IE9 is shite. It looks crap and is slower loading than IE8. Bahh.. this could be the last step into me using chrome full time.

ie9 is crap, its keeps crashing constantly and is slower than the OLD firefox

if they dont fix this soon im either going to stick with ie8 or try loads of other browsers

Unless you download a load of crap with it, IE8 *should* perform better than firefox. In all tests I've ever done IE8 has been very fast, second behind Opera. Chrome I think is the best choice to go for if you're leaving internet explorer. As a web developer I have to use all the major browsers to test my work and Chrome has the best features and performance, but IE8 is still my default browser. Not sure why.. I just don't like change lol.

If IE9 looked and worked exactly like IE8 but with HTML5 etc enabled.. that'd be awesome.. but frankly, it's not.

acer i think you are sadly misinformed

have you ever actually tried firefox, its a lot better and it loads pages quicker and the download screen is the same as windows except it has a downloads tab

in performence ie8 is one of the poorest browsers

I use IE8, FF 3.6, Safari 4.0, Chrome 5 and Opera 5 all on a daily bases. Firefox is the slowest at starting up for the first time and is quite obviously the slowest at loading imagery on my computer (on MY computer, I'm not saying it's a fact).

IE8 has always performed very well for me, matching Chrome and Opera. I know many people have issues with it, but I really do believe it's due to the plug-ins and toolbars they install without thinking.

and startup time is not what you go in its page to page that you mainy use

my computer is a little dated a dual core e7600 and i can tell you firefox is a lot faster eve non my old computer (socket 775)

My computer is running a 6-core 1090T at 4.0GHz, 8GB RAM and two GTX 260's in SLI. Firefox still loads up slow as shit, and for me start up time is very important.
