Tech Experts Reveal New Smart Trolley
Tech experts have devised a new type of smart trolley which is pegged to be the newest weapon in the battle against obesity.
The new intelligent trolley triggers red warning lights when junk food or food with a high salt, fat or sugar content, are dropped into the basket. Items are scanned and the the interactive screen displays the origin of the the food, the nutritional value of the product and allergy warnings.
Although the trolley can’t advise you on a healthier diet, it can direct you toward the special offers on your favourite products. Sion Roberts, director of consumer industries and retail at EDS, the technology company says that while the red lights won’t stop most of us putting the sweeties in our trolleys he hopes it will make people think twice.
As well as advising the customers on what packaging can be recycled the trolley can also help customers in their navigation around the shop when the supermarket decides to up and switch the bread for the toilet roll.
The trolley was unveiled in London at the Institute for Grocery Distribution’s annual conference on retailing in Britain in the future. The Intelligent trolley is already on trial in some shops in the States.
The trolleys will, without a doubt, still have at least wonky wheel.
