Intel Short Movie Shows Horrors of HDDs
Solid State memory is getting cheaper by the day but while many people have splurged on an SSD for their start-up disk, the market’s not quite at the point where we can ditch our 2TB HDDs and transfer all that data to the swankier and more stable SSDs.
Still, Intel wants you to know about the dangers of storing all of your precious memories on a rickety, old HDD. The following short film was made by Intel and is aimed at those who are waiting "just a little longer." Surprisingly, Intel managed to keep away from the slapstick genre as well as the "let’s see how much it takes to destroy this drive, just for fun" genre (though that's got its moments, too).
Check out the surprisingly touching video below.

6 minutes too long.
6 minutes too long.
Seconded!
Last I looked SSD prices had gone back up again here in the UK. I'm simply not interested until it dips below £1 per gigabyte.
I took the plunge and got a 120gb SSD, best upgrade i have got in a long time.
TBQH - you should get interested. a 120GB Vertex 2E is available for £170 now, which is only slightly more than £1 per GB, and cheaper than a Sandy Bridge CPU or a top-end graphics card. Nobody seems to complain about paying good money for those, yet the performance benefit of a new CPU is minimal when compared to the massive performance gains you unlock with an SSD...
I can sort of understand the reluctance to accept SSD prices when Hard Drive prices are so low, but you need to bear in mind that you're not comparing apples with apples here, an SSD works alongside your existing HDs, it doesn't replace them.
