The push for wireless device connectivity is hitting the mainstream and IBM wants to take the helm. The company is pretty much putting wireless technology in all of its products including its ThinkPad and WorkPad lines, servers, and other devices. IBM has developed a new dual antenna design that places the antenna in the screen to provide ThinkPads with integrated support for 802.11 wireless LANs. Also available are two new IBM WorkPads, including IBM's first handheld computer with a color display, based on the Palm Computing platform. New remote wireless management technology is now available for IBM's eServer line. The IBM eServer Wireless Remote Management technology allows system administrators to wirelessly control servers with portable devices such as PDAs. IBM, with Mitsubishi, is currently developing low-power microchips for 3G cellular telephones. Big Blue will manufacture the components using its silicon germanium (SiGe) communications chip technology, which Mitsubishi plans to incorporate into its cellular products.
