Two planes collide on runway at Heathrow
Safety procedures at Heathrow Airport are being questioned after a British Airways Boeing 747 collided with a Sri Lankan Airlines Airbus A340 while the two were preparing for takeoff on a runway, last night. The accident comes just months after the similar collision of two British Airways planes in July.
The wing-tips of the two planes brushed off each other as the two planes were taxiing on the runway before takeoff. The incident occurred at 10.13pm yesterday and while there were some vicious rumours going around from certain news channels, a spokesman for BAA quickly denied the claim from Sky News that an engine had fallen off as “absolutely false” and insisted that passengers had been evacuated and sent to hotels and both flights had been cancelled.
Fire Brigade reports said that there was no fires, injuries or damage and it had just been a minor collision.
The collision in July was more serious and caused millions of pounds worth of damage to both planes with rumours that both had been written off.
