Valve: Big Surprise Isn't Episode 3 (Booooo!)
So much for that theory.
Looks as though the speculation that Half-Life 2: Episode 3 would be Valve's "big surprise" come E3 2010 was shot down in fiery flames. Although it seems rather odd that Valve head honcho Gabe Newell would shoot down candidates for the mystery reveal, apparently he confirmed Episode 3's exclusion in a recent private message, simply saying "it isn't Ep 3." Bummer.
Newell also confirmed that a recent teaser image--depicting the Half-Life symbol with the words "Freeman" and "June 14th" centered underneath--was a fake. The history of the document also shows a lot of tampering although the edits appear to have taken place on June 4. Clearly someone was really hoping for the long-delayed, third installment, and wanted to spread the love.
So what exactly will be Valve's big surprise? The company recently hinted that the mystery reveal wouldn't interest Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 gamers, indicating that PC gamers will receive some sort of high-profile treat come June 14. That's a nice surprise in itself given that many PC developers are slowly shifting over to the dark side (namely heavy console support).

doesnt leave half life 3 out of the question. Maybe its a brand new game they are coming out with.
If it's Half Life 3 I'll be pissed because it'll have to be a whole new story, thus leaving the Half Life 2 arc unfinished.
If it's update Source and everything's been retrofitted I'll be pissed because that's development time taken away from Episode 3.
If it's Left 4 Dead 3 I'll be pissed for the same reasons above.
If it's anything to do with Portal 2 I'll be pissed because that's been officially announced for Christmas.
In fact, if it's ANYTHING other than Episode 3 I'll be pissed, so here's hoping Gabe's throwing a curveball and saying it's not Ep 3 when it is.
Not likely a brand new game, is it? They said the "third game" would be released in bits i.e. the episodes. I imagine it may not be anything to do with Half Life.

if it's YET ANOTHER left4dead i'll be very displeased, L4D only needed one game for what it is, it's just a basic zombie shooter, no style, no substance, utterly boring after 10 minutes and 17 seconds. i played it once and put the disc away.
they need to just do half life, get it released so we can get it played then i'll never 'wait' for another Valve game again.

If it isnt episode 3 or some kind of update to half life (which as we can see will make a lot of people angry), Im hoping for steam for linux or maybe an update to counter strike.
steam for linux or a new counter strike will pacify me.

I'm guessing it won't be a L4D3 as that's just as much of a console port as the other L4Ds, and not a treat for PC gamers.

Counter strike 2 = unlikely as they have just updated CS:S. Left 4 Dead 3 is completely out of the question IMHO!!!!. Nothing to do with Portal 2 as this will shown. Blue shift 2, Opposing force 2? these are possibilities. it has got to be Half life 3 IMHO!
