Google Internally Testing Google Voice in Europe
Those living in the U.S. and Canada have been able to get their Google Voice on for months. However, it seems Google is working intently to bring the service to Europe.
If you've been drooling over Google Voice for the last couple of years, you'll be glad to know that access to this unique service appears to be drawing closer. The Next Web reports that Google is currently internally testing the Google Voice service in Europe ahead of an international roll-out.
Speaking at the European Pirate Conference in Cologne, Germany, European Director of Business Development, Jens Redmer told The Next Web that while Google's practice of not preannouncing products means he couldn't give a solid release date, the search giant was taking "concrete action" to bring Voice to Europe. Redmer added that the launch didn’t only rely on engineers porting the product to work outside the US, but also potential legislative red tape the company has to navigate.
Google Voice is a telephony service that allows customers to connect multiple lines (work, home, mobile) to one number. The service also offers free PC-to-PC calling, video calling, cheap global calls, voicemail transcription and call screening. Redmer told The Next Web that he's already using the Voice in Europe and that he particularly enjoys the voicemail transcriptions.
