Report: Google to Announce Google TV for UK Today

by - source: Telegraph

Is Google TV finally coming to the UK?

It's been well over a year since Google announced Google TV but the company still hasn't made an appearance in UK living rooms. However, it seems all that could change within six months.

Announced at Google I/O in May of 2010, Google TV is attempting to bring the Internet to your living room. It's something that has been done before with widgets and the like but Google is doing things a little bit differently. Using either a dedicated Google TV or settop box with Chrome built in, users are able to switch from TV or Web and back again really easily. You'll also have the ability to search the web and your DVR for content to find out when your shows are on and where you can watch them. Wouldn't it be nice to take in your favourite programs via catch up services (such as 4oD or iPlayer) on your flatscreen TV as opposed to your computer?

According to the Telegraph, Google is preparing to launch Google TV in the UK. The newspaper says Google’s Eric Schmidt will outline the search giant's plans when he gives this year’s MacTaggart lecture at the Edinburgh Television Festival. The Edinburgh Television Festival is already underway and will continue through the weekend but Schmidt's lecture is scheduled to take place in just over an hour. We'll keep you posted!
